Built and designed to recycle, re-use, and yes, re-porpoise items to keep them out of the landfill and save consumers money. Re-Porpoise was designed from the viewpoint of someone who doesn't mind getting handy and repairing things and is looking to save some money vs. paying the 'brand new' premium at retail establishments. This concept also recognizes that when a product reaches a point where the first consumer / original buyer no longer needs the item, many goods turn into trash, even though there is still plenty of life left on those items. The old adage, 'one man's trash is another man's treasure' is part of the philosophy. The hard part is connecting the person who needs the used / no longer needed / maybe broken item with the person who has the item and is ready to dispose of it. That is where Re-Porpoise comes in - we try to supply a variety of used products (returned merchandise, parts for power tools, furniture, whatever) to consumers in a local metro market for bigger items, and will even ship parts throughout the US and internationally for smaller parts.
We look for synergies as well that include helping people become more handy with repairing and re-using items, saving people money, showing people how to do things, and educating the next generation on the value of money and conservation.
In a nutshell, Re-Porpoise aims to save people money and save the environment, while driving a modest profit in the business as well. When you are passionate about something and believe in what you are doing, the work is fun and rewarding!
Currently, we are in the initial startup phases and are using very light marketing from word -of-mouth to Facebook Marketplace. We have plans to expand our effort, but the business also offers flexibility of being an 'as demand appears' operation. People reach out with a need and we find a time that works for both parties to come by to review the inventory / assortment and make an engaged sale. Once the transaction is complete, the customer goes on their way and hopefully remembers us for the next purchase.
Our initial focus of inventory has been on outdoor power equipment (lawn care - string trimmers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, edgers, pole saws, lawn mowers) with some ventures into some other consumable categories (air filters) and items that tend to be disposed of (furniture). We offer a trade-in approach to keep inventory moving and give us a chance to 'Re-Porpoise' something that would find its way to a landfill if not for some repair / tune-up work. We don't repair everything that is traded in - we often will find other people who are in need of a similar item and will purchase the broken / damaged item for a fraction of the price and then they will take what they need and use the rest for parts or dispose of accordingly. In some cases, we will get to a point where only scraps remain, and we need to dispose of those items, so we will attempt to recycle the remnants, offer them for free to the community, or if all else fails, dispose of them in a landfill. We try to keep trash to a minimum and sustainability at a maximum!
